The sun was just coming out now; its vibrate rays creeping into Natsuo’s bedroom which was surprisingly clean for someone who spent to much time thinking. Then again it consisted of everything he’d had since before his dad died. His mother had gone insane so she didn’t go out much, so like she could buy the sorts of things the boy needed. And like Natsuo wanted to waste money on such things, they had enough from the disability checks that his mother got; all the doctors knew was that something wrong with her skin and her health was failing. He’d rather keep the money for emergencies. And for clothes, well he raided his father’s old closet, they’d never thrown away his stuff, and Natsuo had grown to be just about his size, though slimmer.
Natsuo was still asleep as his bedroom door crept open and a young girl about his own age walked in. Others thought she was beautiful, though Natsuo only looked at his as another person, possibly even a child. This almost left the girl heart broken, she was deeply in love with him, but he seemed to only think of her of a fly on the wall. Wasn’t this how things went? One thought the other was annoying, yet they slowly fall in love with them? Oh, that’s how it had to be, he was falling in love with her, she was sure of it!
She walked up to his bed, he was such a quiet sleeper, and he always slept on his side, it was a wonder why. Slowly she picked up his covers and slipped under them, scooting close to him, she wrapped an arm around him, looking at his face, and then leaning her head against his chest.
Something didn’t seem right. There was an odd pressure against Natsuo which caused him to slowly open his eyes from the sleep the seemed to have just started. He looked down to see Fail up against him, and nearly shrugging it off and attempting to fall asleep once more. Though instead he pulled away the covers as he jumped away from the girl, glaring at her as she sat up. He had the cover covering him from his mid stomach down, only wearing a shirt and boxers.
“What the hell are you doing in my bed?” he said in a low cruel voice.
“Well uh-”
“You know what? I don’t care. Get out.” …… “Now.”
Fail rushed out of the room, not closing the door behind her. Boy, did that girl get under his skin, if this was the way someone acted towards the one they loved Natsuo never wanted to get into the feeling of love with anyone but his mother and father. He closed his door and sighed getting dressed quickly. He grabbed his notepad and pencil, and sighed, another day of trying to think up a phrase… then again, maybe it’d be best if he tried to work on his Latin. No, he’d work on the phrase,
The boy walked out of his room, ignoring Fail’s hello he went straight to his mother who was sitting on the couch staring at the T.V. she was watching some kids show Natsuo had never seen, she probably didn’t even know what she’d turned on. You’d think she wouldn’t want to watch violence, even if it was just a mouse and a cat beating one another.
He leaned down and kissed his mother on the forehead. “Mother I’m going out,” he said as he hugged her. She hugged him back, though grabbed hold of a clump of his hair and pulled his head back. Natsuo winced at the pain and looked at his mother.
“You better come how with something, you’ve been coming home with almost nothing lately,” she said tightening her grip on his hair she leaned forward taking her other hand and placing it on his chin, pushing her thumb nail into him, slowly breaking skin. “Got that Natsuo?”
“Yes mom,” He said with a strong voice as she let him go. Natsuo stood up to his full height and walked over to the door. “Have a good day…..” He looked back at his mom. He sighed and added “To the both of you.” He could almost hear Fail melt at his words. Mother always had to have him say something to her.
He walked out of the house and rubbed the indent his mother put in his chin. It still hurt a bit; he wondered… he wondered if it was too noticeable. Well he had a couple of scars up his arms and his hand was wrapped up… So did it really matter if one more thing that wouldn’t last long was added to his little display of pain?
Natsuo made it into the middle of the city a bit after noon and he was starving, but Fail’s little stunt had made him forget to grab the money he’d use for lunch. He cursed the girl as he sat at a bench of one of the train stops that seemed to be a bit, busy. Maybe he could pick pocket someone… No that wouldn’t be right. He couldn’t let himself do it. Suppose he’d just have to go hungry unless he wanted to go fishing in a dumpster. Which he wasn’t going to do.
His stomach growled and he looked at his notepad, trying to think, but the pain gnawing on his stomach kept his attention off thinking of a phrase. Natsuo was almost tempted to just go home, but he knew what his mother would do, and what Fail would do, and he didn’t think it would be much worth it. The boy stood up and started to walk away muttering. “Damn her.”
